So, Portland. Let’s see if it lives up to its billing of America’s coolest city. It’s Steve and Anna’s last weekend so we treat ourselves to a nice little AirB&B in the hip Alberta neighbourhood.
Lots of beards, tattoos, bars and interesting places to eat. Yep, this’ll do.
It's the first place we've come to that sells cameras so I finally replace my little snapper. We'll be scoffing a lot of food here so it's apt that the first shot is of Wend conducting a samosa negotiation.
Highlights on our first full day are a trip to Powell’s bookstore, which is one of the biggest and finest in the world. And an extended pub crawl where we get to sample several of the town’s famous ales.
The choice in Powell's is so overwhelming that I end up buying a t-shirt instead of a book. Wend and Anna do invest in some literature though, so we’re not total philistines.
Later, after we've visited several microbreweries, we stumble across Powell's again and if anything it looks even sexier in the dark.
We like Portland, definitely our kind of town.
